MP-Eye
MP-Eye is an innovative technology designed to measure the level of macular pigment in your eyes. The macula is the central part of the retina responsible for detailed vision, and the density of its natural pigment plays a key role in protecting your eyes from harmful violet-blue light and oxidative stress.
This protective pigment acts as a natural filter, helping to absorb damaging light and reduce the impact of environmental and lifestyle factors on your vision. Low levels of macular pigment have been linked to an increased risk of developing conditions such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), as well as reduced visual performance in glare and low-contrast situations.
The MP-Eye test is fast, non-invasive, and easy to perform. During the assessment, you will respond to simple visual prompts while the device measures your macular pigment optical density (MPOD). This provides an objective and reliable indication of how strong your eye’s natural defences are.
By using MP-Eye technology, we are able to:
- Assess your level of macular protection against harmful light exposure
- Identify early risk factors for macular-related conditions
- Monitor changes over time, particularly if you are making lifestyle or dietary improvements
- Provide personalised advice based on your individual results
Following your assessment, we can offer tailored recommendations to help support and protect your vision. These may include:
- Nutritional advice, including foods rich in lutein and zeaxanthin
- Guidance on dietary supplements where appropriate
- Advice on managing screen use and light exposure
- Recommendations for lenses designed to filter harmful blue light
MP-Eye is particularly beneficial for:
- Individuals with a family history of macular degeneration
- Patients concerned about long-term eye health
- Those with high screen use or light exposure
- Anyone wanting to take a proactive approach to protecting their vision
By incorporating MP-Eye into our clinical assessments, we can detect potential risks earlier and help you take positive steps to maintain healthy vision for the future.
