Visual Field Testing

Visual Field Testing

Visual field testing allows us to assess your peripheral (side) vision, which is just as important as central vision for everyday tasks such as driving, mobility, and general awareness of your surroundings.

We use a Medmont Visual Field Analyser to carry out precise and reliable assessments when needed. This advanced equipment enables us to detect even subtle changes in your visual field that may not be noticeable in day-to-day life.

During the test, you will be asked to focus on a central target while responding to small lights that appear in different areas of your vision. This creates a detailed map of your visual field, highlighting any areas where vision may be reduced or missing.

Visual field testing is an important tool in the detection and monitoring of a range of eye and neurological conditions, including:
  • Glaucoma
  • Retinal conditions
  • Optic nerve disorders
  • Neurological conditions affecting vision
Early detection of visual field loss is essential, as changes often occur gradually and without obvious symptoms. Regular testing allows us to monitor any progression over time and take appropriate action where necessary.

Our Medmont system is also registered with the DVLA and is capable of carrying out Estermann Visual Field Testing, which is required for certain driving licence applications or renewals. This test assesses whether your field of vision meets the legal standards for safe driving.

Visual field testing is:
  • Non-invasive and painless
  • Quick and straightforward to perform
  • Suitable for both routine screening and more detailed investigation
Whether you are experiencing visual changes, being monitored for an existing condition, or require testing for driving standards, our team will guide you through the process and explain your results clearly.

By incorporating advanced visual field analysis into our clinical care, we are able to provide a more complete understanding of your eye health and ensure any issues are identified as early as possible.
